Music
And Other Nature Sounds
Spring is a time of motion, of sap moving, buds
swelling, and birds and frogs calling. The winds, too, do
not stay still -- nor dawn, nor dusk. Flock after flock of
returning migrants add to the action. Each species in time
yields its surge to the sounds.
Recordings are from a variety of habitats: white
poplar / bur oak forest remnant, tree-ringed slough, dugout
(water reservoir), spruce windbreak, farm buildings, garden
and lawn. Outside this area fields of hay and grain provide
another habitat.
Western
meadowlarks visit the dugout daily. They arrive from their
chosen sites to a favored perch. Here they sing with
melodious voices, then fly off, chase another, or drop down
to the water's edge. This selection presents twelve
different meadowlark songs, the songs that sparked the
creation of Meadowlark Music.
