A tall (to 5' or 1.5m), reddish-purple rare prairie beauty that is very attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies and other nectar-loving insects. Name comes from its tough, fibrous stem. Blooms in mid to late summer. Prefers rich, moist, clay soils in full sun.
