Purple Coneflower or Echinacea
(Echinacea angustifolia)

The most medicinal of all prairie plants and a potent immune system enhancer. Native peoples considered it the pharmacopeia of the plains. Now very rare in the wild. Striking downturned mauve petals surround a red centre. To 18" (45cm) high. Echinacea likes full sun and dry soils. It is a relatively short lived species if grown on moist, heavy clay soil.
